Book Review: Beach Thriller

If you need one last “summer book” to read by the beach, then you should pick up Beach Thriller by Jamie Day.

Holly is a writer whose books are not really selling, and she desperately (financially) wants to write a bestseller. She has to move out of her New York City apartment and goes back to Beauport, MA, a beach town where she has inherited a house from her mom. Holly had left town years earlier after the loss of her sister in some mysterious circumstances involving the local golden boy/rich boy.  Holly wants to look into her sister’s case and re-assess the evidence, but the local police are not having it. And she might have a stalker, because she receives sketchy notes from a “Watcher.”

Then someone unlikely comes into Holly’s life: a young women who is not just running away-- she is in search of something very specific in the dramatic seaside town of Beauport. And while hiding in her attic, she came across Holly’s old manuscript, a beach thriller, would might serve as the inspiration she needs.

My Thoughts

While I felt like the book started off a bit slow for a thriller, then it sped up. Regardless of the pacing, I was curious about the characters and invested in each of their storylines, so that kept me reading even as the story was being set up in the beginning. In the second half of the book, the pace picked up. This book would be perfect for a sunny afternoon at the beach or in the air-conditioning, on your couch!
