A romance author who is heartbroken turns to instigating meet-cute moments to inspire her next book and (hopefully) restore her belief in love, but her best friend and sidekick on this journey, Lucas, might ACTUALLY be the person who inspires her to believe in love again…
The novel beings with romance author Ainsley Green on the first stop of her book tour. She keeps thinking about a recent break-up with a guy who (in my opinion was pretty mid) she thought might be THE ONE. Ainsley is promoting a book about her parents’ meet-cute: they met in the cereal aisle at the grocery store. So sweet!
However, Ainsley is faking it til she makes it throughout the book tour; luckily a kind, handsome and empathetic friend is in the audience to encourage her: Lucas, a friend from college. Ainsley is all having writer’s block for her new book and questioning if she can still write about love if she doesn’t know if she believes in it. She decides to go out on a limb and take part in real-life meet cutes, with Lucas helping and filming her for social media. He soon becomes the Internet’s boyfriend.
My favorite meet-cute was knocking over the toilet paper tower at Wegmans, but something related to pickleball is a close second. My sweet spot for a romance is a book with a sense of humor without trying too hard and I found that in How to Find Love in the Cereal Aisle.
My Thoughts
The romance between Ainsley and Lucas was a slow burn, but in a satisfying way with good pacing and tension. Like any friends to lovers romance, I did wonder why she and Lucas had not ever considered dating before. And dare I say this was a he-falls-first romance? There was the case of bad timing at different points in their lives, so overall, I did find it believable. During the book truly was a better time in their lives and personal development for the two characters to fall in love. I’ll allow it!
How to Find Love in the Cereal Aisle is a cute, funny, and meaningful friends-to-lovers contemporary romance. I believe that this book will resonate best with twenty-somethings, but those of all ages will enjoy the book too. If you like reading books about authors with writer’s block or loyal golden retriever MMCs, then you will love this book.
