Book Review: In Your Dreams
In Your Dreams By Sarah Adams
I have read every book in the Rome, Kentucky series by Sarah Adams so far, and I was so excited to read In Your Dreams, the last book in this series (I think). I also loved in the previous book Beg, Borrow, or Steal and how there were hints dropped that James was already in love with Madison, essentially setting up this book, and it was worth the wait! In Your Dreams just might be my favorite book in the series, or else it is a close tie with Practice Makes Perfect!
Readers really did not get to know Madison on a deeper level earlier in the series (3 prior books), so I was excited to “meet” her in her very own book. First of all, I loved that Madison went out on an adventure to the big city and pursued her dream to become a chef, but then she was honest about how she felt when she became lonely and missed home and her family. She was honest with herself when she realized maybe the cutthroat world of fine dining chef jobs in NYC was not for her. Anyone who has left their small town for a job of a chance to live in a bigger world or with bigger dreams will realize the balance between missing friends and family and becoming the best version of yourself. I think Madison realized the best version of herself would end up going home to Rome, KY and it was not a failure, because being realistic about what makes you happy is the only way to really find joy.
In Your Dreams is such a cute, lovely small-town romance with added depth from the sibling relationships (Madison’s sisters and brother) and the hilarious small-town antics of the locals. I loved how Madison had her own character journey of coming into her own and believing in herself again, all while falling in love with James, who at first seemed like the "brother's best friend" or boy-next-door, farmer-next-door whom she might not have noticed before, but he showed there was more to him in this book. James had all of the yearning and romantic gestures a girl could want, like who wouldn’t want your man to help you achieve your dream of opening your restaurant and loving you from afar for years? That’s pretty romantic!
In Conclusion
I think romance readers will enjoy the mix of friendship/sibling dynamics and career choices along with romance, low spice, and yearning. For the best experience, you should read the other three books in the series first, but you would understand In Your Dreams easily as a stand-alone.
