Book Review: Pomona Afton Can Totally Catch a Killer

Pomona Afton Can Totally Catch a Killer (Book 2 in the series) by Bellamy Rose

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Pomona Afton Can So Solve a Murder, so I was hyped to read this second installment! The two novels in this series have a humorous voice, and poke fun at the stereotypes of Pomona as a fun, rich, party girl (yet there is more to Pomona than meets the eye). While she is a fixture at exclusive parties and wearing the latest fashions, Pomona is also street-smart and curious, so when it comes time to solve a murder, she won’t give up.

My Thoughts

Pomona Afton Can Totally Catch a Killer has a strong voice, just like the first book, so to stick with it, you will have to enjoy the character’s voice and way of telling a story. With that said, if you like a cozy mystery with a cast of intriguing characters and a New York City setting, PomonaAfton Can Totally Catch a Killer might just be the book for you. I highly recommend reading the first book in the series before this one.

I will admit that during the first few pages, I was a bit disappointed, because I felt like some of the character development that Pomona had shown by the end of the first book wasn’t really evident…however, I kept reading, and I am glad I did I guess the overemphasis on Pom seeming a bit shallow and out-of-touch (her goal to bring peacocks to the gala in a library) at the beginning was a way to introduce the character to readers? However, once the action progressed, I was ready to follow Pom on her adventures again.

The Verdict

If you want an engaging yet fairly light read with an intriguing mystery and a hint of romance and interpersonal drama, you should pick up the Pomona Afton series.

Thank you to Atria Books, Emily Bestler Books, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t forget to check out the first book in the Pomona Afton series, Pomona Afton Can SO Solve a Murder. Fans of Finlay Donovan series by Elle Cosimano will love this series.
