Book Review: Slow Burn Summer

Slow Burn Summer by Josie Silver is a sweet, steamy, meaningful romance by one of my favorite authors.

Kate, an actress who is ready to restart her career 20 years after it started, takes a creatively unconventional job, acting as “ghost” author. A famous writer is not ready to be the face of the book, so Kate agrees to social media and appearances as the face of the book, because she falls in love with the heartrending love story at a time when she wants and needs to believe in love again, after a painful divorce.

Kate’s character arc as she restarts her career while recovering from her divorce was inspirational and funny, too. Kate’s fiercely loving sister, a costume designer, was one of my favorite characters!

And Kate might just fall in love with her talent agent, handsome, kind, and consistent Charlie, who is on a journey of self-discovery purpose, as well. He is a former co-writer of romantic comedy film scripts, but he has to decide between his old life and a new one.

My Thoughts

Kate’s journey will resonate with readers who are thinking about their second act or slightly later in life “coming of age” story. Romance readers will enjoy the nods to the romance book community and the behind-the-scenes look at publishing and marketing a book.

Like This? Read That!

I also recommend One Night on the Island, which is probably my favorite book by Josie Silver.
