Book Review: This Weekend Doesn't End Well for Anyone

Author Eleanor Dash is headed to a mystery-writing conference in the Bahamas. Why didn’t she learn her lesson not to go on vacation (from the first book in the series Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies)? Well, she kind of assumed that since this was a work trip, where she would be presenting sessions to aspiring writers about how to plot a murder, NOT a vacation, that murder wouldn’t, well, follow her on this trip. Alas, when she enters the hotel suite to settle in for the trip, a dead body awaits. Could this murder be connected to her, and can she solve another murder, AGAIN?

The gang’s all here with some new characters, too. Oliver, Eleanor’s current boyfriend and aspiring author. Connor, the hot and annoying author and inspiration for Eleanor’s first book. Guy, Connor’s prior bodyguard who is running security at the resort for some reason. Harper, Eleanor’s sister, (unsuccessful) aspiring author, and her assistant. Sandrine, Eleanor’s former best friend and current nemesis. Grand Dame of mystery writing and Eleanor’s mentor makes an appearance, too, and of course, her agent, who helped organize the conference. Add to that a BookTok star and Shek’s brother Ravi, and you have a lot of suspects to consider…

This Weekend Doesn't End Well for Anyone has everything you would want from a cozy destination mystery. Recently, I have been reading a lot of thrillers, so this cozy mystery felt a bit slower paced for me. However, that is okay!  I love discovering a new setting with each book and I can’t help but laugh at Eleanor’s quirky way of storytelling. Readers who enjoy a light mystery with a swift, but not breakneck, pace should pick up this series!I really enjoyed the first book in the Vacation Mysteries series, Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies. When I read this book, it was a breath of fresh air; the humorous writing style, the callbacks to favorite cozy mystery genre tropes, and the fairly fast pace. This series is a lighthearted, cozy mystery perfect for reading by the pool or adding to your beach bag. This Weekend Doesn't End Well for Anyone did not disappoint. If you like a reliable cast of series with an intriguing cast of characters and quirky main character, you will enjoy following Eleanor Dash and her friends to a new destination and new murder-mystery.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Note: I do recommend reading the series in order. I had not read the second book when I received the ARC for the third, and there were some spoilers in store. However, I could easily understand all of the plot in the third book without having read the second one. To enjoy all of the books in the series the most, just read them all in order.
