Book Review: Two Kinds of Stranger

Two Kinds of Stranger by Steve Cavanaugh will be released in the United States on March 24, 2026.

When Elly, a social media influencer known for random acts of kindness, falls into the web of a sociopath, she is going to need lawyers who are willing to break the rules to prove her innocence.

Elly is an influencer famous for her random acts of kindness. When she comes home early to surprise her new husband, she finds him with her best friend in a compromising position, and even worse, it is livestreamed to her followers. She thinks it will be the worst day of her life. That's until she finds herself under suspicion for their murders...and potential evidence to convict her was captured in one of her social media videos. The deck is stacked against her, until she meets an unconventional group of lawyers.

Eddie Flynn is a con artist turned successful lawyer, but he doesn't let the law stand in the way of winning a case. When the system is corrupt or the law won't protect the innocent, he isn't above taking the moral and ethical yet illegal route. When he and his team take on Elly's case, it becomes dangerously intertwined with his daughter’s safety and his ex-wife’s freedom.

This book is Book 9 in the Eddie Flynn series, and the definition of a taut legal thriller. I haven't read the rest of the series, yet I believe it can easily be read as a standalone without spoilers or confusion. I also learned a surprising amount about home security and sociopaths. There was an extra twist I DID NOT see coming, and I read a LOT of thrillers!

If you're into social media murder trials, the mind of a sociopath, vigilante lawyers, and satisfying plot twists, make room on your TBR for TWO KINDS OF STRANGER.
