Holiday Book Review: The Kill Clause
What will happen to a hit woman when morals get in her way this holiday season?
The Kill Clause by Lisa Unger is for those readers who go around saying that their favorite Christmas movie is Die Hard. Except this is better, because the main character is Paige, a hit woman, whose morals are getting in the way of her job. With two recent hesitations to get the job done, in her line of work, this means the "kill clause" might be enacted on her, and that means she very likely won't be celebrating Christmas this year.
As the short story opens, a cute kid shows up and Paige decides not to finish the job.. A lot is going on for a relatively short story that you could read in 45 min to an hour. I felt like a whole novel was crammed into this small space. The exposition about her ex-husband Julian and how she got started in the job, as well as her traumatic childhood, made Paige into a mostly well-rounded character. The plot didn't quit and it may have been faster-paced than Die Hard!
My Thoughts
This is a quick read for those who want to read something set during the holiday season but are tired of romance and need to be thrilled by a thriller. If you have read Lisa Unger's other books, you will definitely enjoy this one.
Thank you to Amazon and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The Kill Clause is available on Amazon and you can read on Kindle. It is also an audiobook.
