Book Review: Julia Song is Undateable
Julia Song is Undateable by Susan Lee is an awesome love story that is so funny, cute, romantic and steamy. The book will be released on Oct 28, 2025, so preorder now! I loved it soooo much. If you want to laugh AND swoon, pick up Julia Song is Undateable.
Julia Song is a boss babe who (mostly) refuses to tone down who she is to become more “dateable” in the eyes of the doctors and lawyers sent her way. In this dual-POV romantic comedy, Julia’s grandmother secretly convinces Tae, the very good-looking guy-next-door handyman to coach Julia to become more successful at dating (or at least to loosen up and have fun with it). Tae is kind, handsome, great with people, and had a crush on Julia all through growing up. She never looked twice at him, because he is five years younger. Until now.
The Set-Up
Julia is mostly winning at life, with her two BFFs and close-knit family by her side. Her Korean-inspired beauty and skincare company is expanding every day and was chosen for Oprah’s Favorite Things. But nothing seems to be enough for her family, who believe that 30 and single is too old. She agrees to be set up on 3 dates by her relatives, which will very likely end up being hilarious, painful, and waayyy too awkward. Seriously, I was LOLing and cringeing at the dates.
We love a pivotal scene at the H Mart
My Thoughts
If only the dating lessons from Tae could help her become as “successful” in love as she is at work, but when it comes to being herself, she feels more at home with Tae than anyone else. Tae loves fixing things, helping others, and he knows a lot of K-Pop choreography. So cute! Life may get in the way at times, but this book is a satisfying journey to Happily Ever After.
I thought the career arc, searching for meaning in life, and balancing work-love-family was meaningful and interesting for both characters. The portrayal of male depression and mental health rep and being a caregiver for a parent was also represented well. I also learned new things about Korean skincare and beauty! If you need to laugh AND swoon, you absolutely must read Julia Song is Undateable.
Thank you to NetGalley and publisher Harlequin Trade Publishing and Canary Street Press for an ARC in exhange for an honest review.
