Book Review: Safari Murder Party

Safari Murder Party by Rachel Moore was action-packed, satirical, and surprisingly violent. If you need to read a book full of romance, mystery, and surviving for your life on an island full of wild animals, and worse…cut-throat corporate employees who are dying for the ultimate promotion, then you MUST pick up Safari Murder Party. What kept me reading was the humorous writing style, Fletcher’s fish-out-of-water struggles, and the sizzling chemistry between her and Waylon Cartwright (very enemies-to-lovers). Overall, the novel is fast-paced and funny, with no shortage of action.

Fletcher Spence is an aspiring photographer who needs a promotion at Jet-Setter, the world’s premiere travel and lifestyle magazine. She just broke off her long-term, long-distance relationship and she wants nothing less than to go home to Nebraska, her parents’ farm, and her ex. That’s why she decides she absolutely must accompany her boss Dyer Cartwright on his exclusive yearly retreat to an isolated island near Madagascar.

When she arrives, via private jet, the vibes are decidedly off; there are animal heads and shotguns hanging off every wall, and animals non-native to the island imported so they can be hunted for sport. All of her colleagues are scowling at her because they are “high-performers” and she is the world’s best executive assistant; they think she doesn’t deserve to be there, and soon she will wish she never forced her way onto that jet. Because there is a reason she wasn’t on the guest list for this literally cut-throat retreat.

Enter Waylon Cartwright: the rightful heir to the multi-billion dollar publishing corporation who has no interest in the business. Then his dad announces he is retiring soon. Waylon could clearly care less about the business, so what is he doing there, other than being hot and getting on Fletcher’s nerves? He’s the last person she thinks she would team up with, but when the wild animals get loose and the humans begin to turn on each other, he’s her only ally.

As I was reading, I was thinking this book reminds me of Succession meets The Most Dangerous Game, but make it funny with a clever female lead! Romance readers who liked Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura will like this one.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
